Traditional Culinary Uses

Gold kiwi can be used in any of the same ways green kiwi is used. The edible skin makes preparation, and snacking, a breeze. It is an excellent addition to fruit trays, smoothie bowls, cheese boards, and charcuterie spreads. The mild tropical flavor of gold kiwi is wonderful in savory dishes paired with light proteins like chicken or shrimp. Try adding it to summer rolls or fresh rice bowls.

How to Prepare

Wash thoroughly. Slice and dice or cut and scoop, as desired. The skin is edible, but can be removed if desired.

How to Store in the Kitchen

Just like green kiwi, gold kiwi is ripe when it has a slight give – but can be eaten from firm with a very light give to very tender. To quicken ripening, leave the fruit at room temperature. Kiwi will ripen extremely quickly if stored near other ripening items like bananas or mangoes. Once ripe, the fruit should be refrigerated.

Gold kiwi should be relatively consistent in size and shape in the case. They should be firm and free from cracks, bruising or soft spots, significant scarring, or decay.

Important Handling

Kiwi are extremely sensitive to ethylene, even at low temperatures. Do not store near ethylene producing items and ensure good ventilation in the storage area. Note that smaller fruits may ripen more quickly than larger fruits.

Optimum Shelf Life

Depending on variety, conditions at harvest, and handling, gold kiwi may last up to 2 months, but due to their sensitivity to environmental conditions, they are unlikely to reach their optimum shelf life.
