The Spring Mix You’ve Been Waiting For: B&W’s NEW Premium Blend

Finally there’s some new game in town to liven up the spring mix category.  B&W Quality Growers, the nation’s most reliable growers of baby arugula and watercress, just launched their first spring mix: a brand new Premium Blend.  We were so excited to receive our first samples – and they did not disappoint.

The blend combines beautiful baby red oak and baby green leaf lettuces that bring a lofty feel to the mix and ensure it stands up to even the most acidic dressings.  To bring Premium Blend to the next level, B&W has peppered their signature trimmed watercress into the mix.  The vibrant green cress adds a backbone of peppery flavor and – most exciting – a big nutritional punch.

Lettuces are a good source of fiber, but otherwise aren’t particularly rich in vitamins or minerals.  Watercress, on the other hand, is one of the most nutrient dense vegetables on the planet.  It is rich in vitamins A, C, and K, plus, as a member of the Brassica plant family, watercress is a cruciferous vegetable that contains glucosinolates, or sulfur-containing compounds, that may inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

B&W Quality Growers now grow their baby leaves across eight states, but they have close ties to our region and a history even longer than JVI’s own!  The company was founded in 1870 in New Jersey, where they remained headquartered through the 1990s.  B&W first focused on growing exclusively watercress, but have since expanded into a wider line of leaves – although watercress remains their flagship product.
