Punterelle is a long, spiky Italian chicory, and is related to radicchio and endive. Its mild, bitter flavor adds just the right kick to jumpstart a salad. Once virtually only found in Italy, this vegetable has made its way to other parts of the world and provides a much sought after taste of the Mediterranean. In the cuisine of southern Italy, Punterelle is often steamed and served with fava beans.
